Year 12 SACE Achievements in 2019
Congratulations to our 2019 Year 12 cohort on their impressive results. All students successfully achieved their SACE Certificate and 29.4% of all grades were in the A band. The achievement of the cohort adds to the positive and evolving trend with regards to Year 12 results at Christian Brothers College. With 79.5% of students achieving grades in either the A or B band in over 30 different learning areas or classes, results suggest our community and students are highly dedicated to learning and peak performance.
I congratulate our College Dux, Aidan McCabe, earning an ATAR ranking of 96.85. Aidan achieved this through General Mathematics (A+ and Merit), Sports Science (A), Biology (A), Physics (A-) and Religion – Integrated Learning (A-). I further extend congratulations to our Proxime Accessit, Benjamin Cirocco, earning an ATAR ranking of 96.8 with excellent results in Food and Hospitality (A+ and Merit), Information Processing and Publishing (A+), Religion – Integrated Learning (A), Mathematical Methods (A-) and Physics (A).
Considering the results of our 2019 Year 12 cohort, perhaps there is no better example of commitment to learning when considering their involvement in the after-hours Study Group. In an effort to provide our senior students with extra support, Christian Brothers College employed a range of university tutors to attend after-hour sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. This was a new initiative and it was not uncommon to see over 60 students attend these study sessions weekly. I am grateful to all the teachers who further volunteered their time to help students at Study Group and look forward to developing this further in 2020. Not surprisingly, the College has seen a positive shift again in Year 12 results towards the A band, meaning students achieving in the C band are getting smaller and students achieving in the A and B band continue to swell. Additionally, 46% of Year 12 students undertook Vocational Educational and Training (VET) as part of their SACE. With 137 students across the College enrolled in VET Courses, our students engaged in a collective sum total of 45,152 hours of courses. We are proud as a College to provide a diverse range of opportunities and platforms for our boys to succeed.
While these results are a cause for celebration, their significance lies in the opportunities they yield for our students regarding post-schooling aspirations. Of students applying to SATAC for Higher Education, 77 received their first round preference with a further 16 receiving second preferences. Impressively, 89% of eligible students received an early round offer to their first and second preference. There is diversity in the career aspirations with 20% of students receiving offers in Business and Commerce, 17% in Engineering, 18% in Medical and Health Science streams and 13% into ICT and Design. We also celebrate and recognise students who won carpentry, plumbing and electrician apprenticeships, a student accepting a USA College scholarship for soccer and another appointed as an Officer in the Royal Australian Navy. These are only a snapshot but help to capture the depth and impressive nature of our 2019 year 12 cohort.
Vocational Education and Training Highlights
- 46% of all Year 12 students undertook Vocational Education & Training as part of their senior secondary education
- 44 Year 12 students had their Certificate III in VET verified by SACE as a Tertiary Admissions Subject (TAS)
On behalf of the Christian Brothers College community, I reiterate my congratulations to all the Year 12s on their accomplishment and wish them the best for their post-schooling endeavours.
